Minutes:

  1. The meeting is opened at 17:15 hrs. The meeting is co-chaired by G. Wild and J. Drahos.

  2. The delegates of both working parties introduce themselves.

  3. The minutes of the WP CRE informal meeting at Chicago, along ISCRE 18, June 7, 2004, are approved.

  4. The issue of 'sleeping members' is discussed. The present policy is confirmed that members who have not attended three successive business meetings will be asked to resign in order to be succeeded by a delegate from the same country who is able to attend the meetings and to participate in the activities of the Working Party.

New members of the WP CRE are (for full address etc., see the attached list of delegates): Ing. C. (Cristina) Maretto (Italy), Dr.ir. G. (Geert) Reyniers (Belgium), Dr.ir. F.J.M. (Frans) Schrauwen (Netherlands).

    L. Kershenbaum (UK) announces that he will resign as WP CRE delegate and he proposes Dr. A. (Asterios) Gavriilides (University College London, UK) as his successor. This proposal is accepted.

    L. Kershenbaum emphasizes that new delegates should be made aware that there is no remuneration of expenses related to the membership of the Working Party.

Set-up of the WP CRE website will be initiated in the upcoming period.

  5. J. Drahos informs briefly about the EFCE ExBoard meeting in Bratislava and draws attention to the European Chemical Engineering Directory (www.eced.cz).

  6. J. Levec (SLO) reports about CAMURE 5 & ISMR 4. There were 157 participants from 30 countries. A student contest was organised with three awards. At the end of the year a special issue of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research will be published with 54 scientific papers. The next combined CAMURE & ISMR symposium will be organised in India in 2007. It is strongly suggested to combine this symposium with GLS8 which will also be organised in India in 2007. G. Wild and J. Levec will contact the Indian organisers of both symposia to bring forward this suggestion.

    G. Wild reports about the upcoming GLS7 symposium in Strasbourg, 21-24 August, 2005. About 100-150 participants are expected. The proceedings are published in a special issue of Chem. Eng. Sci. and will distributed at the symposium. Jointly with this congress will be held the 17th World Congress of the International Ozone Association; a common half day is planned.

    W. Gerhardt (D) reports about ISCRE 19, 3-6 September, 2006, Potsdam/Berlin. ISCRE 19 will be jointly organised with IMRET with one day overlap. Plenary speakers are presently being invited. The proceedings will be published in a special issue of Chem. Eng. Sci.

    J. Drahos mentions that in the August-September period, many conferences are organised. He warns against too much overlap in time of competing conferences (for example CHISA and ISCRE/IMRET in 2006).

    J. Villadsen (DK) reports about ECCE 6, 16-21 September, 2007, Copenhagen. A website will be opened. The leading theme of the symposium will be the integration of life sciences and chemical engineering. Villadsen argues that the field of biochemical engineering is underexposed in the 'traditional' conferences in the area of chemical reaction engineering, like ISCRE. It is suggested that Villadsen contacts the organizers of ISCRE 19 to bring forward this issue.

    J. Drahos reports about the successful 43rd Two-Phase Flow Group Meeting in Prague, May 11-13, 2005. It is suggested that a joint meeting of the WPs Chemical Reaction Engineering and Multiphase Fluid Flow would be very useful and interesting as many topics have much overlap. It is suggested to organise a joint Colloquium on '2-phase flow in microreactors':. This suggestion will be taken on in the upcoming period.

  7. J. Schouten presents the report by G. Marin on the APCRE Working Party meeting in June 2005 (report already sent). The Chairman of the WP CRE (G. Wild) will act as corresponding member of the APCRE Working Party. G. Wild and J. Schouten will propose European members of the Scientific Committee of ISCRE 20.

  8. The possible merging of related conferences is discussed. The following merging of conferences is strongly advised and hartily welcomed:

    • CAMURE & ISMR & GLS
    • IMRET & ICOSCAR

  9. Joint organisation and partial overlap of conferences is very much welcomed, like the combination of ISCRE and IMRET in 2006.

    G. Wild and J. Levec will approach the organisers of the next GLS and CAMURE & ISMR to stimulate the merging of both conference series. (Note of G.W. October 2005: at the Board meeting of GLS in Strasbourg, this topic was raised and the Indian organisers of GLS8 (Prof. Nigam and Prof. Joshi) promised to get in touch with Prof. Chaudhari.)

  10. There are no other issues to be discussed.

  11. The meeting is closed at 18:30 hrs.
